What is a Fractional CFO, REALLY?

To start with, the Financial Management of a business can be broken into 3 parts …

The Accounting role is responsible for maintaining the books, paying bills, generating accurate month-end reports, and sometimes processing payroll.

This role is typically accomplished through Bookkeepers, Admins, CPA firms and/or PEO’s.

The Tax role is responsible for filing taxes, estimating quarterly tax payments and providing tax saving strategies.

This role is typically accomplished through Tax Accountants or CPA’s.

The FP&A role analyzes financial data to provide recommendations that improve profitability and cash flow and reduce debt.

This role is typically accomplished through Business Financial Analysts or FP&A Leaders.

The Fractional CFO combines the roles of Accounting and FP&A to provide business strategy recommendations, from accurate bookkeeping, that improve the financial health of the organization.

Fractional CFO’s also work with CPA’s to ensure tax strategy is part of the overall financial strategy.
